The Courtauld Institute of Art presentation at St Jude's

Findings from the first phase of investigations into the wall paintings in the Lady Chapel at St Jude-on-the-Hill. In spring 2026, a project was launched to conserve the remarkable wall paintings in the Lady Chapel at St Jude on the Hill. Using state-of-the-art, non-invasive analytical techniques, the project seeks to deepen understanding of the paintings, their history and condition, while informing their long-term conservation and care. The project will be undertaken over several years by the Courtauld as part of its MA in the Conservation of Wall Paintings programme, providing valuable practical fieldwork experience for students. The project team present the results of the documentation and analysis completed during the first phase of investigations.
