To establish the methodology for restoring our spirit frescoes, we have begun work on this test panel, and already the process reveals significant improvements in Walter Starmer’s most damaged work. The conservation effort aims to preserve his brushwork, tonal range, and surface integrity, while carefully addressing problems and damage. The project is being undertaken by a dedicated conservation artist specialising in meticulous in-layer analysis, dirt removal, and retouching to maintain historical accuracy and aesthetic fidelity.
